Police's thread is broken in the empire of gangster Nilesh Ghaywal; Third strict action under MCOCA Act, extradition process intensifies
Pune, November 12, 2025 (Special Correspondent) – Pune Police has once again taken strict steps against the notorious gangster Nilesh Ghaywal, who has created terror in the criminal world of Pune. After the shooting incident in Kothrud, now the third action has been taken under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) in the case of extorting a ransom of Rs 45 lakh from a female businessman. Ghaywal, who fled to London by obtaining a passport on the basis of fake documents, is now facing a total of 11 serious crimes. This action has been taken on the orders of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, and efforts are underway at the international level to extradite Ghaywal. This action is considered a significant step towards curbing hooliganism in Pune.
The name Nilesh Ghaywal is spreading terror in Pune, Ahmednagar, Beed, Satara and Dharashiv districts. His gang has made life difficult for the common people through land grabbing, extortion and several other crimes of violence. After the recent shooting incident in Kothrud, the police had used the axe of the MCOCA Act on Ghaywal. After that, the same law has been applied in the new case as well. Sambhaji Kadam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 3, said, "So far, three cases have been registered against Ghaywal under the MCOCA Act. We are taking a strong stand to ensure justice to the common citizens trapped in the net of this gangster."
The details of this new case are that Ghaywal had extorted a ransom of Rs 45 lakh from a female businesswoman by threatening her. The woman is involved in the business of supplying food to school canteens. Ghaywal demanded money by threatening her and her family with life and threatened violent action if she refused. While investigating the incident, the police came across the draft of Ghaywal's gang. MCOCA action has also been taken against Ghaywal's brother Sachin Ghaywal in the same case. According to police, the two have targeted many businessmen together.
Ghaywal's list of crimes also includes the case of forcibly grabbing ten flats in a new construction project in Kothrud. The flats were taken possession of by threatening the construction worker and fearing firing. Cases have been registered against Ghaywal, his brother Sachin and other accomplices in this case. Police said that Ghaywal's gang has also created terror in quiet areas like Kothrud. "These flats were sold illegally and Ghaywal amassed a huge fortune from them," the investigating officers revealed. For all these crimes, a total of 11 serious sections have been applied to Ghaywal, including extortion, land grabbing, violence and organized crime.
Nilesh Ghaywal's criminal history is very bad. In 2019, he obtained a passport from the Ahmedpur division of the Ahmednagar Rural Police Force by presenting fake documents. He prepared all the documents using the name 'Gayaval' instead of his real surname 'Ghayval'. Although the Ahmedpur police conducted the passport verification process, the forgery was not revealed. On the basis of this passport, he fled to London and his son is studying there. According to the police, Ghayval has also been instructing his gang from abroad and continuing the crimes. "This is not just a case of one person, but an entire network of organized crime," said Deputy Commissioner Kadam.
Pune police have become active for Ghayval's extradition. Correspondence has been exchanged with the High Commission in Britain and Interpol has been contacted. Also, a Blue Corner Notice has been issued to arrest Ghayval. A letter has been sent to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to investigate Ghayval's assets. Pune police have started an investigation into Ghayval's illegal assets and have prepared a list of lands and properties in Dharashiv, Ahilyanagar, Beed and Satara districts. "Ghaywal has amassed immense wealth through gangsterism. We will use all legal options to seize this wealth," explained Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.
Local businessmen and residents are curious about the outcome of this action. Many people in Kothrud and the surrounding area were living in fear due to threats from Ghaywal. Now they have found relief in the anticipation of the extradition process along with the implementation of the MCOCA Act. However, the police will have to make more efforts to completely unravel this criminal network. There is also a growing demand for an investigation into political leaders who support gangsters like Ghaywal. According to the Pune Police, some more names related to Ghaywal's gang are coming to light during the investigation.
Overall, the Nilesh Ghaywal case can be considered an example of a successful crime control campaign in Pune. The third action under the MCOCA Act is just the beginning. It is hoped that the police's efforts to bring him back from abroad will be successful. The Pune Police is keeping an eye on the new developments in this case and a major action is expected soon. The police have appealed to citizens to cooperate with the police against such goons.
