Terrorist firing in Anantnag; Amarnath Yatra security personnel martyred, over 1,000 suspects detained
Anantnag (Kashmir), July 22: Terrorists opened fire on Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi of the Jammu & Kashmir Police, who was deployed for the security of Amarnath pilgrims in the Anantnag district of South Kashmir. He was martyred in the attack.
The incident occurred around 12:30 PM on Wednesday in the Lal Chowk area. Head Constable Ashiq Hussain was deployed to ensure the safety of Amarnath pilgrims. He lost his life in the indiscriminate firing by terrorists.
Major operation by security forces
Following the attack, security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers. A high alert has been issued across the Kashmir Valley, and over 1,000 'Over Ground Workers' (OGWs) and suspects have been detained.
Top officials visit the scene
Given the gravity of the incident, Jammu & Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat and Inspector General of Police (IGP) V.K. Birdi immediately visited the site and reviewed the situation.
Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his condolences to the family of the martyred jawan. "The nation stands with the family of martyr Ashiq Hussain Qureshi. The guilty will not be spared under any circumstances," he stated. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also strongly condemned this cowardly attack.

Security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra have been further intensified following this attack. Security forces are on high alert to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.
