Thackeray Faction Launches Legal Offensive Against 9 Shinde Loyalist Corporators in
Thane; Is a Major Rift Brewing in the Mahayuti?
Nashik/Mumbai, May 14, 2026: The power struggle within the 'Mahayuti' (Grand Alliance) appears to be intensifying. The positions of nine corporators belonging to the Shinde faction within the Thane Municipal Corporation are now facing a grave threat. The Uddhav Thackeray faction has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court against these corporators. Consequently, speculation is rife that a major political upheaval is imminent within the Mahayuti.
The Thackeray faction has alleged that nine corporators from the Shinde Sena—elected from the Diva area of ??the Thane Municipal Corporation—provided information in their election affidavits that was allegedly incorrect, incomplete, and misleading. These corporators include Ramakant Madhavi, Shailesh Patil, Aadesh Bhagat, Deepak Jadhav, Sakshi Madhavi, Darshana Mhatre, Archana Patil, Dipali Bhagat, and Sneha Patil. Advocate Rohidas Munde, representing the Thackeray faction, has filed a writ petition regarding this matter.
Advocate Munde clarified that, in accordance with previous rulings by the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court, providing misleading information in an affidavit can lead to the nullification of an election and may also result in disqualification proceedings under the Representation of the People Act.
Rohit Pawar’s ‘Earthquake’ Claim
On the other hand, NCP MLA Rohit Pawar has made a bold claim. He asserted that Sunil Tatkare and Praful Patel would contest future elections directly on a BJP ticket. He further claimed that an arrangement has already been finalized for 22 MLAs to join them, and that several MLAs from the Eknath Shinde faction are also preparing to switch allegiance to the BJP. Consequently, political circles are abuzz with discussions that a major political earthquake within the Mahayuti is now inevitable.
Tensions within the Mahayuti have currently escalated, and the Thackeray faction's latest move is likely to deal a significant blow to the Shinde faction. Reactions to this development are pouring in from all political parties, and all eyes are now fixed on the unfolding events.
