33,000 'Ladki Bahin' (Beloved Sisters) in Amravati Deemed Ineligible; Honorarium Stopped Since March, but ?50 Crore Benefit Will Not Be Clawed Back
Amravati: Under the 'Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana' (Chief Minister's My Beloved Sister Scheme), 33,304 women in Amravati district have been declared ineligible. Consequently, their honorarium payments have been stopped since March 2026. This decision was taken because applications that were approved en masse during the election period were found to be ineligible upon verification.
According to the district administration, the government will not recover the benefits—totaling ?49 crore 25 lakh 60 thousand across approximately 10 installments (at ?1,500 per month)—already received by the women now deemed ineligible. However, approximately ?91 lakh 50 thousand will be recovered from 607 male beneficiaries who took undue advantage of the scheme.
Key reasons for ineligibility:
Aadhaar not linked to the bank account
Incomplete e-KYC
Family's annual income exceeding ?2.5 lakh
Age below 21 or above 65 years
Government employment, benefits from other government schemes, ownership of a four-wheeler, etc.
Current status of the scheme (Amravati district)
Total applications: 7,20,635
Currently eligible beneficiaries: 6,95,350
Ineligible: 33,304
The deadline for e-KYC had been extended to April 30, 2026. Currently, over 6.95 lakh women in the district are receiving a monthly grant of ?1,500.
