Betrayal of Voters! History Will Not Forgive the Breakaway MPs – Vijay Wadettiwar’s Outrage
Mumbai: Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar has expressed strong reactions to the split within Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT). Commenting on the move by six MPs to form a separate faction and join the Shinde group, Wadettiwar described it bluntly: "This is a betrayal of the voters. History will never forgive them."
Reacting on social media, Wadettiwar said, "Democracy is not merely a tool to win elections; it represents the trust placed by the people and the responsibility entrusted by the Constitution. However, the BJP's modus operandi is clearly visible today: poaching opposition members, splitting parties, swaying elected MPs and MLAs to their side, and pressuring democratic institutions when necessary."
The 2024 Election Issue
Wadettiwar further pointed out that votes were sought from the public during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the name of the Maha Vikas Aghadi and based on an anti-BJP stance. If these MPs now defy that mandate and join the BJP camp, it is not just a political decision but a blatant betrayal of the voters. History will never forgive those who sell out their party loyalty and the public mandate for the sake of power.
Appeal to the Public
Urging the public to remain vigilant, Wadettiwar said, "The people must now question these elected representatives: Does your loyalty lie with the voters or with power? Is your commitment to holding office greater than your commitment to ideology? You will have to answer this before the public."
This split within the Uddhav-led Sena is considered a major blow to the Maha Vikas Aghadi. The actions of these six MPs are likely to create new political equations in Maharashtra.
