7 kg of ration per person instead of 35 kg per family; Government prepares draft and invites suggestions by July 13

New Delhi: The Central Government has proposed a significant change to the ration distribution rules under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana.
Currently, 35 kg of ration is provided per family; the government is now considering providing 7 kg of food grain per person per month instead. The government believes this change will make the scheme more targeted and ensure it reaches those truly in need.
The Central Government has prepared a draft for this proposed change and has invited suggestions and objections from all stakeholders. Interested individuals and organizations can submit their suggestions by July 13, 2026.
If implemented, this change will completely alter the ration distribution method for the extremely poor families benefiting from the Antyodaya Anna Yojana. Currently, lakhs of families across the country are availing the benefit of 35 kg of food grain under the Antyodaya scheme.
