Deputy Chief Minister Shinde Reacts to Sanjay Dina Patil’s Controversial Remarks; Advises Apology to Avoid Disrespecting Journalists

Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde today took a firm stand regarding the controversy sparked by MP Sanjay Dina Patil’s remarks about journalists. Stating that disrespect towards journalists would not be tolerated under any circumstances, Shinde mentioned that he had advised Patil to offer a sincere apology to the media.
Shinde said, "I have spoken with Sanjay Dina Patil. He clarified that he had no intention of using derogatory language against journalists or hurting their sentiments. He has always maintained good relations with the media. However, he harbors frustration because certain individuals consistently use abusive language in front of the media."
Shinde further stated that Patil expressed his willingness to apologize to the media if any offensive words had slipped out inadvertently. "I have advised him to avoid making such statements in the future. Maharashtra is a state that believes in democracy. The use of crude language—such as 'kill them,' 'smash them,' or 'break into their homes and beat them'—does not befit anyone," Shinde asserted firmly.
Strong reactions are emerging from across the state regarding this matter. Highlighting the importance of political culture and the dignity of the media, Eknath Shinde has appealed to everyone to exercise restraint.
