Bloodshed at Bondi Beach: Pakistani father and son unleash terror on Hanukkah celebrations, 16 dead, 40 injured

Sydney (Australia): A terrorist attack occurred on December 14, 2025, at Sydney's famous Bondi Beach during the Hanukkah (Chanukah) festival of the Jewish community. In this attack, a father-son duo of Pakistani origin opened indiscriminate fire, killing 16 people and injuring more than 40. Police have declared the attack a terrorist act.
The attackers have been identified as Sajid Akram (50 years old) and his son Naveed Akram (24 years old). Both are Pakistani citizens. Sajid had a gun license for 10 years and was a member of a gun club. Sajid was killed in police firing during the attack, while Naveed is receiving treatment in a hospital for his injuries.
Before the attack, the duo told their family that they were going fishing on the south coast. However, they went directly to Bondi Beach and started firing during the Jewish festival. Six weapons were found at the scene, while an ISIS flag and identification were found in their car. Social media posts indicated that Naveed had completed Quranic studies at the Al Murad Institute in Sydney in 2022, which were later deleted.
Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said that the motive and background of the attack are under investigation. It has become clear that the attack was aimed at the Jewish community. An atmosphere of terror has been created in the Jewish community in Australia, and the attack is being condemned worldwide.
This incident has reignited discussions on gun laws and counter-terrorism measures in Australia. The injured are receiving treatment in various hospitals, some of whom are in critical condition.
