Terrorist attack threat in Delhi; Temples and markets in Red Fort area targeted, police on high alert

Delhi, February 21, 2026: There is a possibility of a terrorist attack in the capital Delhi once again. According to intelligence agencies, Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is planning to target major religious places and markets in Delhi. This includes temples in the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk area in particular. Following this threat, Delhi Police has issued a high alert in the city and security arrangements have been tightened.
According to sources, this plan is being planned as revenge for the attack on a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan on February 6, 2026. Lashkar-e-Taiba is likely to carry out attacks using IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) in major cities of India. A major temple in Chandni Chowk in Delhi is said to be the main target. Apart from this, there is a threat of attack on other markets and crowded places.
Senior Delhi Police officials said that similar information was received before Republic Day. After that, security was increased around religious places. Now once again, police patrolling has been increased in temples, markets and crowded places. CCTV cameras, metal detectors and additional manpower have been deployed.
Earlier, on November 10, 2025, a car explosion took place near the Red Fort. 13 people were killed and 12 were injured in the explosion. Within a month of this incident, security agencies have been put on alert after receiving another threat of a terrorist attack.
Delhi Police has appealed to citizens to be vigilant. If you see any suspicious object or person, you have been asked to immediately inform the police. Further investigation is underway to find out how serious this threat is, but currently the city is peaceful and no untoward incident has taken place.
