Celebrating a ‘Picnic’ in Parliament? BJP Launches Fierce Attack on Rahul Gandhi Over ‘Tea and Biscuits’ Photos During LPG Protest; Alleges ‘Insult to Democracy and Mental Instability’
Patna, March 14, 2026: Amidst the ongoing opposition protests within the Parliament complex regarding the nationwide shortage of domestic gas (LPG), photographs of Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, consuming tea and biscuits have gone viral. These photographs have drawn sharp criticism from the BJP.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Bihar BJP office, BJP National Spokesperson Guru Prakash took a strong dig at Rahul Gandhi. He stated, “Despite explicit prohibitions issued by the Lok Sabha Speaker, Rahul Gandhi sat at the ‘Makar Dwar’ (Crocodile Gate) on March 12, 2026, and celebrated a ‘picnic’ under the guise of a protest. This constitutes a blatant violation of Rule 384 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha. This day has proven to be a ‘Black Day’ for democracy.”
Guru Prakash further added, “This act by Rahul Gandhi is an insult to Babasaheb Ambedkar and to the entirety of our democratic system. His mental equilibrium has been disturbed due to his prolonged absence from power. Whenever decisions do not go in his favor, he blames the courts or the Election Commission. Now, he has gone so far as to directly insult the very ‘Temple of Democracy’ itself.”
The BJP spokesperson posed a direct question to Rahul Gandhi: “In the eyes of the law, all citizens are equal. Does Rahul Gandhi, then, consider himself to be above the law and the Constitution? The nation needs to remain vigilant against such individuals.”
The government's stance regarding the LPG shortage issue was also firmly articulated. Guru Prakash remarked, “Prior to 2014, our mothers and sisters were compelled to cook their meals over smoke-emitting traditional stoves. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ujjwala Scheme’ has provided a gas connection to every household. Today, there is an adequate supply of gas and oil available across the country. The situation has improved manifold compared to the era of Congress rule.” Citing information provided by ministers and officials in Parliament, the BJP completely rejected the allegations made by the opposition.
