Full state holiday in Bengal on July 6; ?200 crore fund approved for Dr. Mukherjee's 125th birth anniversary

A public holiday has been declared across the state on July 6, 2026, to commemorate his 125th birth anniversary.
Acknowledging Dr. Mukherjee's contributions, the government has announced several ambitious schemes to preserve his memory. These include the renovation of his ancestral home and the construction of a park, a library, and a memorial at the site. A fund of ?200 crore has been proposed for these projects.

A 20% hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees. This increase will come into effect from October 1, bringing the total DA to 38%.
One lakh vacant posts across government departments will be filled, with one-third of these positions reserved for women.
