Thalapathy Vijay's TVK Government's 'Big Plan'

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government, led by actor-turned-Chief Minister Thalapathy Vijay, has launched a major drive for the state's economic development. Fulfilling the promises made upon assuming office, Chief Minister Vijay has succeeded in attracting investments worth over ?1 lakh crore to the state. This initiative is set to create approximately 93,000 new jobs.
Following the TVK party's massive victory in the 2026 Assembly elections, Vijay has set a goal to transform the state into a $1.5 trillion economy by 2035. To achieve this, the government is actively promoting economic reforms and industrial investments.
Key Projects and Investments:
Historic Agreement with L&T:
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth ?18,600 crore has been signed with Larsen & Toubro (L&T). The agreement includes a ?15,000 crore hyperscale data center in Kanchipuram, an electronic systems manufacturing plant in Coimbatore, and shipbuilding and green energy projects in Tiruvallur. These initiatives will generate over 8,200 local jobs.
HD Hyundai Shipbuilding Cluster:
A mega shipbuilding cluster will be established in Thoothukudi at a cost exceeding ?38,000 crore. This project is expected to create 15,000 new jobs.
Green Energy and Infrastructure:
Approvals worth ?15,032 crore have been granted for 231 energy projects. Additionally, solar, wind, and battery storage projects are projected to create 15,058 jobs.
Cochin and Mazagon Shipyard Projects:
Two new commercial shipbuilding plants will be set up with an investment of ?30,000 crore. These projects are likely to generate up to 55,000 jobs.
Announcement of 'Single-Window' Scheme:
To accelerate investment, the government has established the Tamil Nadu Investor Promotion Commission. Projects involving an investment of over ?200 crore or generating more than 5,000 jobs will receive fast-track approval.
This development plan holds added significance as it coincides with Thalapathy Vijay's birthday. The plan will not only boost the economy but also help reduce unemployment in the state by providing large-scale employment opportunities for the youth.
