Great news for devotees traveling to Konkan for Ganeshotsav! Toll waiver announced for major highways, including Atal Setu.
Mumbai – The government has once again gifted a toll waiver to Ganesha devotees traveling to Konkan for Ganeshotsav this year. The state government has taken a significant decision to grant toll concessions to vehicles belonging to devotees heading to the Konkan region during the festival period.
This toll waiver will be applicable from September 11, 2026, to September 27, 2026, at toll plazas on the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway (NH-48), the Mumbai-Goa National Highway (NH-66), and other relevant routes leading to Konkan that fall under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). Additionally, vehicles traveling to Konkan via the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu—which falls under the Urban Development Department—will also benefit from this toll waiver.
Ganeshotsav is a vital festival in the cultural and social life of Maharashtra. Thousands of families residing in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and other cities across the state travel to their native villages for the festival. During this period, traffic increases significantly on major routes leading to Konkan, including the Mumbai-Goa Highway. The government decided on this toll waiver to ensure that the devotees' journey is smoother, safer, and more pleasant, and to spare them from unnecessary financial burdens while traveling.
Under the guidance of Public Works Minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale, the Public Works Department issued a government circular regarding this matter on September 8, 2026. Instructions have been issued to the Public Works Department, Police, Traffic Police, Regional Transport Office (RTO), and the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) to coordinate effectively for the successful implementation of this decision.
How to obtain the toll waiver pass? To avail of the toll waiver, Ganesha devotees will be provided with a specific sticker or pass bearing the legend ‘Ganeshotsav 2026 Konkan Darshan’. These passes will display the vehicle's registration number and the driver's name. Arrangements are being made to make these passes available at designated locations through the coordination of the Transport Department, Traffic Police, the Police Department, and the respective Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). Passes will be available at police stations, traffic police outposts, and RTO offices. Since the pass is valid for the return journey as well, devotees will benefit from the toll waiver when traveling back from Konkan.
Toll waiver facilities will also be extended to Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses traveling to Konkan from various districts across the state. The necessary passes for these buses will be issued by the local police or the Regional Transport Department. Buses can avail of the concession at toll plazas by either displaying the pass or having it affixed to the vehicle. Consequently, Ganesha devotees traveling to Konkan via public transport will also benefit from this decision.
In addition to the toll waiver, emphasis is being placed on traffic management, police deployment, the provision of necessary amenities along the route, and inter-departmental coordination.
