Nagpur, May 24: Revenue Minister—and Guardian Minister for the Nagpur and Amravati districts—Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced that the State Government is preparing to enact a law to permanently resolve disputes regarding 'Devasthan Inam' (temple endowment) lands in Western Maharashtra and the Konkan region. The State Government is gearing up to introduce legislation aimed at providing a permanent resolution to the long-standing disputes surrounding these temple endowment lands in Western Maharashtra and Konkan. He stated that approximately 400,000 hectares of land fall under the 'Devasthan Inam' category, and a law is essential to bring clarity regarding the rights of the temple trusts (Devasthan rights) and the tenancy rights (tenant rights) associated with these lands.
This proposed legislation is set to be published on the Revenue Department's website within the next two to three days, allowing citizens to submit their suggestions and feedback. He clarified that a final decision regarding this matter would be taken during the legislative session scheduled for July.
Comprehensive Action Plan to Tackle Heat
Against the backdrop of the prevailing heatwave, the government has formulated a comprehensive action plan. Acting on instructions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, necessary directives have been issued to the Guardian Ministers of all districts to address this situation. Following meetings held in Nagpur and Amravati, various measures have been implemented to strengthen water reservoirs, enhance water storage capacity, prevent wastage, and ensure the frugal use of water resources. He also appealed to the citizens to use water judiciously.
Speaking on the drought situation, he noted that the situation remains critical in Buldhana, Hingoli, and certain parts of Western Maharashtra due to depleted water reserves. To address this, remedial measures have been devised in consultation with the respective District Collectors, and the administration stands fully prepared to ensure an uninterrupted water supply to the public. Currently, 17 to 18 specific measures are being implemented for this purpose, and a distinct Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and set of guidelines have been formulated for all District Collectors. He further clarified that funds are readily available under the 'Jal Jeevan Mission' (Water Life Mission), and there are no financial hurdles hindering these efforts.
