Major Change in SC Reservation! Karnataka Government Gives Green Signal to Sub-categorization

Karnataka (Bengaluru): The Karnataka state government has taken a significant decision regarding Scheduled Caste (SC) reservation. During a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the sub-categorization of SC reservation was approved.
According to this decision, the 15% SC reservation quota within the state will now be divided into three major groups. It is anticipated that this sub-categorization will ensure fairer representation for various sub-castes, based on their respective population size and socio-economic status.
According to the government, this reform was deemed necessary as certain sub-castes were not receiving the intended benefits of the reservation policy. The new framework represents an endeavor to ensure that the benefits of reservation reach all sections of society in an equitable manner.
Meanwhile, while this decision has been welcomed by several social organizations, it has also elicited mixed reactions in certain quarters. All eyes are now focused on how this sub-categorization will impact representation in educational institutions and government employment opportunities in the times to come.
