Madras High Court Order Challenged; C. Joseph Vijay Government's Floor Test Faces Crisis

New Delhi/Chennai: R. Srinivas Sethupathi, an MLA belonging to the TVK party of Tamil Nadu's new Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, has filed a petition directly in the Supreme Court challenging the Madras High Court's order prohibiting him from voting.
The Madras High Court had barred R. Srinivas Sethupathi from casting his vote during the floor test in the Legislative Assembly. Challenging this order, he has sought an urgent hearing before the bench headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI), Surya Kant.
The floor test (vote of confidence) for C. Joseph Vijay's government is scheduled to take place today—Wednesday—in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Against this backdrop, TVK MLA Sethupathi has approached the Supreme Court. In his petition, he has requested that the High Court's order be set aside and that he be granted permission to cast his vote.
All eyes are currently fixed on the stance the Supreme Court will adopt regarding this petition. This hearing could potentially give a new direction to the political developments unfolding in Tamil Nadu.
