DA Hike: Great News for Lakhs of Government Employees and Pensioners in Maharashtra; 60% Dearness Allowance Announced

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has taken a significant and historic decision regarding its government employees. Under this decision, the Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees has been increased, raising it to 60 percent.
Following the Central Government's announcement of a 2 percent hike in Dearness Allowance for central employees effective from January 1, 2026, the Maharashtra government has decided to extend a similar benefit to its own workforce. This move is set to directly benefit lakhs of employees and pensioners across the state.
Previously, the Dearness Allowance stood at 58 percent; under the new decision, it has been raised to 60 percent. For instance, if an employee's basic salary is ?50,000, they previously received ?29,000 as DA; this amount will now increase to ?30,000. Additionally, employees will also receive arrears dating back to January 2026.
As this decision will result in higher take-home pay for employees, it will help alleviate their financial burden to some extent. This move by the Maharashtra government is being hailed as the first major New Year's gift for the state's government employees.
An official notification regarding this decision is expected to be issued shortly.
