Preparations underway for major changes in Agniveer scheme

- Modi government can review, a group of ten secretaries formed
- NDA allies have objections
New Delhi. Now the recruitment of soldiers in the Indian Army is being done under the Agnipath scheme, but in the Lok Sabha elections, the opposition had raised the issue of Agniveer scheme loudly among the public. Not only this, when the BJP government was formed, its allies have also demanded changes in the scheme. On the day this scheme was implemented, it was also said by the Ministry of Defense that it will be reviewed from time to time. If any changes are to be made, then that will also be done.
It has been one and a half years
It has been one and a half years since the Agnipath scheme was implemented and in these one and a half years, this scheme is being reviewed. If sources are to be believed, the DMA i.e. Department of Military Affairs has sought a report on this from the three armies. If sources are to be believed, there is talk of increasing the tenure by four years, more recruitment and increasing the limit of 25 percent retention, but nothing can be said about how much it will be. Apart from this, there is also discussion about providing financial assistance to the family in case of death or injury of any Agniveer during training and duty.
The gap in leaves will also be reduced
Not only this, the gap between leaves given to regular army soldiers and Agniveers can also be changed. For example, a normal soldier gets 90 days leave in a year, while Agniveers get only 30 days in a year. Right now, there is two and a half years time for the first batch of Agniveers to be out, so if any changes are to be made, then it should be done before the first batch is out so that the Agniveers of the first batch can get its benefit.
If there is a change, Gorkha soldiers will get relief
Ever since the scheme came, no recruitment rally has been organized in Nepal. Nepali Gorkha soldiers have not been recruited in the Indian Army for the last four years, about two and a half years during Corona and about one and a half years since the implementation of the Agneepath scheme. According to an Indian Army official, before independence, about 90 percent of the Gorkha soldiers in the Gorkha regiment were from Nepal and 10 percent Indian Gorkhas, but as time passed, this percentage was made 80:20. Later it was made 60:40. That is, 60 percent Nepali domicile Gorkhas and 40 percent Indian domicile Gorkhas.
Secretaries of 10 major ministries
Assigned the task
New Delhi. According to the Economic Times report, the NDA government has assigned the task to a group of secretaries of 10 major ministries to review the Agneepath scheme and suggest ways to make the recruitment program in the armed forces more attractive. This group of secretaries will suggest ways to make the recruitment of soldiers more attractive through the Agneepath scheme. Quoting its sources, the newspaper wrote that this group of secretaries will give a final presentation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he returns from the G-7 summit in Italy. After the final report, the Prime Minister's Office can take necessary steps to improve it. It is being said in the media that the PMO will take a final decision on the changes in the scheme after reviewing the suggestions and feedback received from other sources including the states.
