Stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium in celebration of RCB's victory in Bengaluru leaves 7 dead, dozens injured**

Bengaluru, June 4, 2025: The celebrations of Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) maiden title win of IPL 2025 turned into mourning when a stampede broke out due to the massive crowd outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday. At least seven people, including a woman, were killed in the tragic incident while over 24 people were injured, some of whom are said to be in critical condition.
According to eyewitnesses, thousands of fans had gathered at Gate No. 3 of the stadium to attend RCB's victory parade and celebrations. The situation worsened as the crowd went out of control, and many were crushed under the pressure. The injured were immediately rushed to Bowring Hospital in Shivajinagar and Vydehi Superspeciality Hospital on Vittal Mallya Road. According to sources, the death toll is expected to rise.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed regret over the incident, saying, "It was difficult to control the crowd. We had deployed more than 5,000 security personnel, but it was a young and enthusiastic crowd. We apologise for the incident." The police also resorted to mild lathicharge to control the situation, after which some fans tried to cross the stadium walls and fences.
The Bengaluru police had appealed to the crowd to disperse and watch the ceremony through live stream, but in excitement many fans ignored the rules. Meanwhile, metro services were temporarily halted at Cubbon Park and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar metro stations to control the crowd.
The RCB team, led by Rajat Patidar, was earlier felicitated by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar at the Vidhana Soudha. A grand ceremony was planned at the stadium after this, in which the players were to share the IPL trophy with the fans. However, the celebrations were marred by tragedy.
The police and administration have launched an investigation into the incident, and people have been urged to maintain peace. The incident highlights the excitement of the sport and the challenges of crowd management.
