Sweden Bestows Political Honor Upon Modi; India's Name Shines with 31st Global Award
Gothenburg (Sweden): Sweden has conferred its highest state honor—the ‘Royal Order of the Polar Star, Commander Grand Cross’—upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This marks his 31st international award.
Currently on a four-nation European tour, Prime Minister Modi arrived in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Sunday. He was accorded a rousing welcome. Swedish Air Force Gripen fighter jets escorted his aircraft through the airspace, providing a security cover all the way to the airport. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson personally went to the airport to welcome Modi.
Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria presented this supreme honor. Modi was bestowed with this award in recognition of his contributions toward strengthening India-Sweden relations, fostering global cooperation, and reinforcing partnerships across various sectors.
The Indian diaspora at the airport also accorded a grand welcome to Modi. The event featured a rendition of ‘Vaishnav Jan To’ by a Swedish opera singer, a Bharatanatyam dance performance, and a showcase of Bengali culture. Swedish Prime Minister Kristersson was also present at the event.
Prior to this, Modi had visited Sweden in 2018. After nearly eight years, he has once again received a spirited welcome. He is scheduled to stay in Sweden for two days—May 17 and 18—during which key issues concerning both nations will be discussed.
