Students Protest in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Against MPSC's Computer-Based Exam System

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Students have expressed strong opposition following the Maharashtra Public Service Commission's (MPSC) announcement to conduct the Group-C Services Combined Preliminary Examination 2026—and all future preliminary exams—using a Computer-Based Test (CBT) system. The Students' Federation of India (SFI) Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District Committee staged a protest on Monday at the reading hall within the university campus. During the protest, demonstrators tore up the MPSC notification to register their protest against the decision.
SFI activists participating in the protest stated that the CBT method is unfair to students from rural areas and economically weaker sections. Since exam centers would be located only in major cities, students would face additional travel, accommodation, and financial burdens, effectively depriving them of the right to equal opportunity.
SFI’s Arun Mate pointed out that numerous instances of paper leaks, irregularities, corruption, and technical glitches have surfaced in CBT exams conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Consequently, they demanded that the MPSC continue conducting exams using the traditional offline (pen-and-paper) method.
Key demands of the protesters:
The MPSC’s notification regarding the CBT exam should be withdrawn immediately.
Preliminary examinations should be conducted using the pen-and-paper method, as before.
Vacant posts across all departments of the Maharashtra government should be filled immediately.
The protesters warned that the government and the MPSC must seriously consider the difficulties faced by students and reconsider the decision; otherwise, an intense state-wide agitation would be launched. SFI District Secretary Manisha Ballal and a large number of university students participated in this protest.
