Thackeray-Shinde clash in BMC elections! Shinde Sena's plot to capture Mumbai?

Mumbai, June 18, 2025: There are signs of intensifying the conflict between Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) in the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader and MP Shrikant Shinde has started intensive preparations for the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections. The Shinde faction has especially focused on the Bandra area, where Uddhav Thackeray resides, where Aditya Thackeray has influence. Political analysts believe that there is a possibility of a direct match between Aditya Thackeray and Shrikant Shinde in this election.
Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) is determined to gain power in BMC on the strength of the Mahayuti. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde himself has announced that the Mahayuti (BJP, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress) will contest the elections together in all 227 wards. They have set a goal of making Mumbai the country's economic "powerhouse". For this, the Shinde faction has focused on the 84 seats won by Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena in 2017.
On the other hand, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena has decided to contest the elections on its own. The Thackeray faction has been the mayor in the BMC for the last 25 years, and they are confident of maintaining their hold this year too. At the same time, the Thackeray faction is likely to gain strength as alliance talks with Raj Thackeray's MNS are underway. If the Thackeray brothers come together, this election could be difficult for the grand alliance, an internal survey by the BJP has revealed.
The BJP has also started working on its own strategy. The BJP, which won 82 seats in 2017, has given a slogan of winning more than 150 seats this year. However, the strong hold of the Thackeray faction in Mumbai and the sense of Marathi identity are likely to give the Shinde faction and the BJP a tough challenge.
Bandra in the spotlight: Shrikant Shinde has focused on Bandra area, where "Matoshree" is the residence of Uddhav Thackeray. On April 10 and 11, Shrikant Shinde had reviewed the south-central and north-central areas of Mumbai. He intends to hold meetings to activate local office bearers, which is likely to heat up the atmosphere of this election.
Political equations: The possible alliance between Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and MNS is likely to bring about some changes within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). On the other hand, the grand alliance of Shinde group and BJP has planned an aggressive strategy to outdo the Thackeray group. Due to this, the BMC election will not just be a battle for power, but a battle for political survival between Thackeray and Shinde.
Marathi identity, Hindutva and local issues will be at the center of this election. Mumbaikars are now eagerly watching the fight between these two veteran leaders. It will be interesting to see whether this election will create new history in Mumbai politics.
