Tukaram Mundhe’s appeal to Gen-Z in Nagpur: "Stand up against mob mentality; beware of misinformation on social media."
Nagpur: The 'Gen-Z' generation has come into the national spotlight following the 'Cockroach Janata Party' protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Against this backdrop, Tukaram Mundhe—a senior IAS officer and Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Maharashtra—addressed Gen-Z at an event in Nagpur and made significant remarks.
Mundhe stated that the decisions made by the majority or prevailing social trends are not always correct. Everyone must possess the courage to oppose tendencies that run counter to public interest and morality. He emphasized that cultivating the capacity to struggle against mob mentality and exercising discernment is the need of the hour, a responsibility the new generation must now shoulder.
Noting that today’s conflicts are fought with ideas rather than weapons, he warned against attempts to sow discord in society through the spread of misinformation on social media. He remarked that the true test of modern education lies in developing the ability to choose the right path rather than simply going with the flow.
Citing examples of decisions made during the era of Adolf Hitler, Mundhe explained that actions appearing legally valid can still prove wrong when measured against the yardsticks of humanity and public interest. Therefore, it is essential to exercise discernment before accepting any order or system.
He urged students to acquire necessary skills today—keeping in mind the requirements of the next four to five years—as artificial intelligence, automation, and evolving technology rapidly transform the nature of employment.
Mundhe also advised students to cultivate the habit of verifying the source, intent, and potential impact of any message, video, or 'reel' before accepting it as the truth.
