Maharashtra Assembly Monsoon Session 2025: The state's monsoon session is currently underway and the opposition has taken the government to task on many issues. During today's proceedings, farmers and farm laborers die due to lightning in the state. When a farmer or farm laborer dies, their family is left in the open. Congress legislative leader Vijay Vadettiwar demanded that the assistance be increased, as only Rs 4 lakh is given to such families.
During the starred question hour in the legislative assembly, legislative leader Vadettiwar demanded that Rs 10 lakh be provided in the case of death of farmers or farm laborers due to lightning. Rs 25 lakh is provided in the case of attack by a tiger. However, four lakh is provided in the case of death due to lightning. Vadettiwar demanded that the assistance be increased as this assistance is not sufficient.
On this, Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan said that earlier, deaths due to lightning were not included in the state disaster management, but now it has been included. Minister Mahajan assured that he would consider his suggestions regarding increasing the relief fund in this matter and discuss this with the Chief Minister. The government also clarified that 236 deaths due to lightning in Maharashtra occurred in the year 2022, while 181 deaths occurred in the year 2023.
Who has control over the tiger?
On this occasion, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar stated that deaths due to lightning are a natural disaster. No one has control over it. But if there is a death due to a tiger attack, there is human intervention in it, and the assistance will be decided based on this. On this, Bhaskar Jadhav asked, then who has control over the tiger? To this, Rahul Narvekar also replied that who has control over the tiger? This is not clear yet.
