Shiv Sena split, traitors' gathering in Mumbai; Raut targets BJP"

"Mumbai, October 2, 2025: The political conflict between the Shiv Sena Thackeray faction and the Shinde faction has intensified once again. Separate Dussehra gatherings of both the groups have been organized in Mumbai today, and this year's gatherings are under threat of rain. After the split in the Shiv Sena, the Dussehra gathering has been divided into two groups for the last few years. The Thackeray faction's gathering will be held at Shivaji Park, while the Shinde faction's gathering will be held at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). During these gatherings, both the groups are preparing to strongly criticize each other.
Shiv Sena Thackeray faction MP Sanjay Raut has harshly criticized the Shinde faction and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). "A new tradition has started in the country since Modi came to power. Earlier, gatherings of loyalists were being held, but now gatherings of traitors are being held with the inspiration of the BJP," Raut said in a scathing attack on the Shinde group. He also clarified that the Thackeray group's gathering will be a rally to scold traitors. Raut's statement has heated up the political atmosphere.
Background to the Dussehra gathering
After the split in the Shiv Sena in 2022, Eknath Shinde rebelled and formed an independent group. After that, a legal battle has been going on between the two groups over the official symbol and name of the Shiv Sena. Like every year, this year too, the Dussehra gathering is an opportunity for both groups to show their strength. The Thackeray group is claiming to be firm on its original ideology, while the Shinde group is calling itself the real Shiv Sena. During these gatherings, both groups will try to bring their workers and supporters together.
Rain and political battle
Mumbai is currently experiencing a rainy season, and rain is threatening the Dussehra gatherings. The rain is likely to affect the organization of the gatherings and the enthusiasm of the workers. Nevertheless, both the groups have made strong preparations for the gathering. The gathering at Shivaji Park will be attended by Thackeray group leaders Uddhav Thackeray and Aditya Thackeray, while Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will attend the Shinde group's gathering.
Raut's attack
Sanjay Raut, through his weekly mouthpiece 'Saamana' and at a press conference, harshly criticized the Shinde group and the BJP. "Those who betrayed the ideas of Shiv Sena and the principles of Balasaheb Thackeray, the public will throw mud at them," Raut said. He further said that the Thackeray group's gathering is dedicated to the true ideas of Shiv Sena and the identity of Maharashtra. "We are not holding a gathering of traitors, we are holding a gathering of loyalists," he also said.
Shinde group's counterattack
The Shinde group has also responded to the Thackeray group's criticism. Shinde group leader and spokesperson Sanjay Shirsat said, "We are the real Shiv Sena and our gathering is to carry forward the thoughts of Balasaheb Thackeray. The Thackeray group is only criticizing, but they have no vision for development." The Shinde group is likely to praise the performance of the Mahayuti government in its gathering and criticize the Thackeray group for forming an alliance with the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party.
Enthusiasm among workers
Workers of both groups are excited for the gathering. Workers of the Thackeray group have started gathering at Shivaji Park, while workers of the Shinde group will be present in large numbers at BKC. In both gatherings, the leaders will guide their respective groups on their future strategies and election preparations. This year's gatherings will be a time for political accusations and counter-accusations as well as efforts to unite the workers.
Political analysts' opinion
According to political analysts, the Dussehra gathering is not just a show of strength for both groups, but also an opportunity to boost the morale of the workers for the upcoming elections. "The division in the Shiv Sena is not just political, it is emotional and ideological. Both groups call themselves the true heirs of Balasaheb. This will make this year's gathering more intense and emotional," said senior journalist and analyst Praveen Bardapurkar.
