"The Sole Center of Power: Me!" – Tamil Nadu’s New Chief Minister Vijay’s Firm Resolve

Chennai (PTI): C. Joseph Vijay, chief of the TVK party, took the oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday following his party's victory in the state assembly elections. Immediately after the swearing-in ceremony, he made it clear: "In the government under my leadership, I alone will be the center of power. No other center of power shall exist."
At the Nehru Sports Complex in Chennai, Governor Rajendra Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay. Nine other ministers also took their oaths during the swearing-in ceremony. The event was attended by leaders from various political parties, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
In his speech, Vijay identified himself as a citizen hailing from an ordinary family. "I know what poverty and hunger feel like, for I was born into the home of an ordinary film director," he stated. He also declared that a new era had dawned upon the state and expressed his confidence that a new chapter of true secularism and social justice had begun.
**Commentary on the State's Indebtedness**
Vijay also commented on the state's financial condition. "Tamil Nadu bears a debt burden exceeding ?10 lakh crore, and the state exchequer has been drained. Nevertheless, with the support of millions of citizens, we will accomplish these arduous tasks," he affirmed.
Reacting to this, former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin remarked, "The state's debt remains well within permissible limits. What is required is the mindset to work for the welfare of the people." He also extended his congratulations to Vijay.
**Implementation of Election Promises**
Immediately after taking his oath, Chief Minister Vijay announced three key schemes:
**Free Electricity:** 20 units of free electricity for domestic consumers whose consumption exceeds 500 units.
**Women's Safety:** Establishment of the 'Singa Pen' (Lioness) Special Action Force.
**Drug Eradication:** Establishment of 65 special task forces. Vijay has resigned as the MLA for the Tiruchirappalli East constituency while retaining his seat as the MLA for the Perambur constituency.
Congratulating Vijay, Rahul Gandhi remarked, “Tamil Nadu has embraced a new generation, a new voice, and new ideas. Vijay will fulfill the hopes of the people.”
This swearing-in ceremony is being regarded as a new beginning in Tamil Nadu politics.
