12 forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj In UNESCO's World Heritage List!

Mumbai, Dec. 11-12 forts of the royal king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. They have now been included as 'unique universal value'. These include 11 forts in Maharashtra - Raigad, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Panhala, Shivneri, Lohagad, Salher, Sindhudurg, Vijaydurg, Suvarnadurg, Khanderi - and one fort in Tamil Nadu - Jinji.
The Maharaja built these forts to create and maintain Swarajya. The Machi architecture of the gates and forts, which are invisible to the enemy, is an important and distinctive part of Maratha architecture. This Machi architecture is not seen in any fort in the world. Machi architecture is a diplomatic part of the security and war strategy of the fort. This is the ‘Unique Universal Value’.
Many people contributed to reaching this milestone.
First of all, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modiji. His support and active participation from the Central Government were of great value. The Archaeological Survey of India and the Ministry of Culture helped a lot in this. I personally contacted various ambassadors. My colleague Deputy Chief Minister Eknathrao Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajitdada Pawar also supported me from time to time. My colleague Minister Ashish Shelar personally went and met the Director General of UNESCO. He made a technical presentation there. Additional Chief Secretary Vikas Kharge from my office, as well as India’s Ambassador to UNESCO Vishal Sharma and Hemant Dalvi from the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums participated in it. Many people contributed and today’s moment of joy has been created for Shiv devotees across the country. I once again congratulate everyone from Maharashtra.
