A big official was beaten up and the Chhawa organization came into the spotlight, what is the history of this organization?

Pune: Among the many Maratha organizations that emerged from Latur and Dharashiv districts, 'Chhawa' is an important and always in the spotlight organization. This organization, established in 1990, was started by organizing Maratha youth and working for their rights, especially for reservation. The working style of 'Chhawa' has always been aggressive. In Latur, where this organization was born, a Latur bandh has been called after an office bearer of the 'Chhawa' organization was beaten up. Apart from this, it is being predicted that this organization will become more aggressive against the leaders of Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party. Let us see what is the history of this organization.
In the wake of the very serious and condemnable incident that took place in Latur yesterday, I have given clear instructions to the state president of the Nationalist Youth Congress, Suraj Chavan, to resign from his post immediately.
Special connection with Latur
Annasaheb Jawale is the founder of this organization. When Vilasrao Deshmukh was the Chief Minister, Jawale had slapped an IAS officer in Latur. This incident made the name of the Chhawa organization known to the whole of Maharashtra. NCP leader Surach Chavan beat up Vijay Kumar Ghadge of the Chhawa organization in Latur. When NCP state president and MP Sunil Tatkare came to Latur, Vijay Kumar Ghadge had staged a protest. The reference was that Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate was playing rummy in the legislature. Vijay Kumar Ghadge protested by throwing cards at Tatkare. NCP workers have alleged that he also abused Tatkare in foul language. Due to this, Suraj Chavan and his supporters beat up Ghadge brutally. Suraj Chavan apologized for the incident and Ajit Pawar also expressed his displeasure over the incident. But then the atmosphere in Latur was heated.
Fight for Maratha reservation
Maratha reservation has been the main issue of the Chhawa organization. The Chhawa organization has consistently participated in the protests on these issues. The main demand of this organization has been that the Maratha community should get 10% reservation in education and government jobs. Since 2000, 'Chhawa' and other Maratha organizations have been seen coming together and continuously protesting for the demand for reservation. After Manoj Jarange Patil started the protest in Antarwali Sarati in 2023, the Chhawa organization also supported that protest. The Maratha community became aggressive due to police lathicharge in this protest and at that time, the activists of the 'Chhawa' organization also held protests at different places.
Aggressive organization
The 'Chhawa' organization has been trying to act as an aggressive pressure group. The activists of this organization try to take to the streets, hold marches and even take the law into their own hands on occasions to put pressure on the administration and government. It is said that a Karnataka bus was set on fire in Dharashiv in 2023. Apart from this, the same organization is also accused of being involved in the attack on the house of NCP MLAs in Beed.
The 'Chhava' organization has often protested for reservation for the Maratha community. This organization still has considerable influence in the Latur and Dharashiv areas. The local body elections are approaching, and caste equations are very important in these elections. Therefore, the assault on Ghadge and the Chhava organization becoming aggressive again have created a new headache for Ajit Pawar's NCP. There are also fears that this assault will tarnish the image of Ajit Pawar's party among the Maratha community.
