kochi:-Former Kerala Chief Minister and senior Marxist leader V.S Achuthanandan died at the age of 101. CPI (M) has given this information. Senior CPI (M) leader and former Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan was ill for a long time and was hospitalized. 101-year-old Achuthanandan was admitted to the hospital on June 23 after a suspected heart attack at home. He was living at his son or daughter's house in Thiruvananthapuram since resigning from the post of Chairman of the Administrative Reforms Committee in January 2021.
On Monday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and CPI (M) leaders went to the hospital to meet him. Apart from the Chief Minister, several party leaders including Finance Minister KN Balagopal and State Secretary went to the hospital to meet Achuthanandan on Monday afternoon. News agency PTI quoted sources as saying.

Achuthanandan was a towering figure in Kerala politics. He began his political journey at the age of 16 by joining the popular opposition against feudal landlords and colonial rule in Alappuzha. He made his mark as an activist and agitator by organising indentured agricultural labourers and Aspinwall factory workers in Kuttanad.
Achuthanandan was actively involved in the militant left-wing movement against the colonial government in 1946, which culminated in the famous and tragic Punnapra-Vayalar uprising. He went underground, but was arrested and tortured in police custody.
In 1964, Achuthanandan left the National Council of the undivided Communist Party of India and became one of the founding members of the breakaway Communist Party of India (Marxist).
