Eknath Shinde's sharp dig at the opposition: "Those who flee after asking questions shouldn't lecture us"

Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde launched a scathing attack on the opposition during the state legislature's monsoon session. Stating that the opposition had run out of substantive issues, Shinde remarked, "Those who ask questions and then run away should not try to teach us."
Rebuking the opposition for questioning the Speaker's conduct, Shinde clarified that the House proceedings are conducted strictly according to the rules. He noted that the Speaker had provided ample opportunity for the opposition to ask questions; however, their strategy was to create a ruckus and engage in political stunts rather than listen to the answers.
Shinde also took aim at the opposition's tendency to be absent. Mocking them, he said, "It is their old habit to ask the government questions and then walk out of the House when it is time for the reply."
Strong rebuttal regarding farmers' issues
Shinde reprimanded the opposition for attempting to corner the government on farmers' issues. Highlighting that the Mahayuti government has provided ?45,000 crore in aid to farmers so far, he announced a decision to revise compensation criteria and double the assistance. He dismissed the opposition's claim that "injustice has been done to farmers" as completely misleading.
He stated that the people of Maharashtra have shown the opposition their place and that public trust in the Mahayuti alliance is growing day by day. He took a dig at the opposition, noting that their political space is shrinking.
Criticism of the Speaker's decision
Shinde rebuked the opposition by asking who gave them the right to question the Speaker's decision, asserting that such decisions are final. Reminding them that many opposition leaders were frequently absent from the House between 2019 and 2022, he advised them to engage in introspection. Quoting the adage, "Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones at others," he held up a mirror to the opposition. This aggressive speech created a tense atmosphere in the House for some time.
