
Free education: Implement the free higher education scheme for girls effectively, the minister gave direct orders
Mumbai: 100 percent tuition and examination fee concession is being given to economically weaker section students studying in government, aided, partially aided, permanent unaided colleges-technologies as well as public and government-recognized universities. Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil directed that this scheme should be implemented effectively and that no girl will be deprived of this scheme, all colleges should take serious note of this.

A meeting was held in the ministry under the chairmanship of Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakantdada Patil regarding the implementation of the free higher education scheme for girls. Additional Chief Secretary of the Higher and Technical Education Department B. Venugopal Reddy, Director of Technical Education Dr. Vinod Mohitkar, Director of Higher Education Shailendra Devlankar, Deputy Secretary Khorgade and concerned officers were present in this meeting. Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil said that no fee should be charged from eligible students taking admission in professional courses through the CAP process at the time of admission. Patil also gave clear instructions to refund the fee if the institutions had charged it last year.
The scholarship amount is deposited directly into the institution's account and the examination fee is deposited in the Aadhaar-linked account of the students. The Directorate of Technical Education has activated a helpline and help desk, and all complaints regarding fee collection are being resolved immediately. Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil said that a special nodal officer is being appointed for this.
Under the Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Education Fee Scholarship Scheme, 1 lakh 3 thousand 615 girls have been given direct benefits of Rs 784.46 crore from technical education till June 16, 2025. Apart from this, 1 lakh 32 thousand 188 applications were received from higher education till June 16, 2025. Out of which, 61 thousand 526 students have been disbursed an amount of Rs. 55.83 crore. The verification of the remaining applications is in the final stage. It was also informed that the benefit of the scheme is not limited to diploma courses only, but also in postgraduate professional courses like MBA, MCA, M.Pharm, the benefit of 100 percent fee concession is being given to the students.
