If the Paper Wasn't Leaked, Why Was the Exam Cancelled?

What Is the CBI Probe For? Parliamentary Committee Delivers a Stern Rebuke to NTA Directors
New Delhi: Senior officials of the NTA (National Testing Agency) have faced a major setback regarding the alleged paper leak scandal surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 examination. A Parliamentary Committee interrogated NTA Director Abhishek Singh and Chairman Pradeep Kumar Joshi. The answers provided by them during this session left the committee members—Members of Parliament (MPs)—outraged.
During the committee meeting, the MPs posed a direct question: "If the paper was not leaked, then why was the examination cancelled? And what is the purpose of the ongoing CBI investigation?"
The NTA officials replied, "No paper was leaked from our end; only a few questions had surfaced externally." Upon hearing this response, the committee members flared up. They retorted, "If the paper was not leaked, then what exactly is the CBI investigating? The NTA is merely attempting to give itself a clean chit."
The government has already acknowledged that the NEET paper was indeed leaked, necessitating the cancellation of the examination and the subsequent handover of the case to the CBI.
Key Highlights:
The question paper for the NEET examination, held on May 3, 2026, had been leaked several days prior to the exam date.
In connection with this case, several individuals—including Shivraj Motegaonkar, a professor from Latur, Maharashtra—have been arrested.
The CBI is currently investigating the source of the leak, the modus operandi used, and the extent to which the paper reached the student community.
The Parliamentary Committee is now also raising questions regarding the NTA's examination protocols and security infrastructure.
This entire episode has cast a massive shadow of doubt over the transparency of medical entrance examinations across the country. Students and parents alike are outraged.
