Taking serious cognizance of this matter, the Health Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a notice to the hospital administration. The hospital has been ordered to submit complete details regarding the incident that occurred during the surgery—including case papers and medical records—within 24 hours.
Assistant Health Officer Dr. Suryakant Devkar sent this notice to the hospital on Wednesday (May 20, 2026). The girl, Priyanshi Bagade (aged 6), had been admitted to the hospital for eye surgery. The Municipal Corporation took immediate action after reports surfaced in the media stating that she had passed away during the procedure.
The PMC Health Department clarified that the hospital is mandatorily required to comply with the provisions of the Mumbai Nursing Homes Registration Act and the rules stipulated in the State Government's notification dated January 14, 2021. Against this backdrop, the hospital has been directed to immediately submit all relevant medical documents, treatment records, and full details of the surgery.
Meanwhile, a case regarding this matter has been registered at the Alankar Police Station, and an investigation is currently underway. The police are awaiting the preliminary post-mortem report from the Forensic Department of Sassoon Hospital. An inquiry is being conducted to determine exactly what circumstances arose during the surgery and whether there were any lapses in the medical procedure.
Outrage regarding this incident is being expressed across social media platforms and in the mainstream media. The PMC Health Department has assured the public that it will conduct a thorough inquiry and take strict action against anyone found to be at fault.
