**Legislative Council By-election Schedule Announced** **

Nagpur, May 19:** The Election Commission of India has announced a by-election for the Nagpur Local Authorities' Constituency, held under the ambit of the Maharashtra Legislative Council Elections 2026. With the announcement of this election, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force across the district effective May 18, 2026. District Collector Kumar Ashirwad has appealed to all concerned parties to strictly adhere to the Model Code of Conduct as prescribed by these guidelines. He was speaking at a press conference organized at 'Niyojan Bhavan' regarding this election. Additional District Collector Pravin Mahire, Deputy District Election Officer Dr. Rachana Indurkar, District Information Officer Vinod Ratpatwar, and representatives from various media outlets were present at the press conference.
The official notification for the Nagpur Local Authorities' Constituency by-election is scheduled to be published on May 25, 2026. The deadline for filing nomination papers is Monday, June 1. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on Tuesday, June 2. The last date for the withdrawal of candidature is Thursday, June 4. Polling for this by-election is scheduled for Thursday, June 18, and will be conducted between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The counting of votes will be held on Monday, June 22. District Collector and District Election Officer Kumar Ashirwad stated that the entire election process is set to be completed before Thursday, June 25.
Approximately 14 polling stations have been projected for the voting process of this election. The final list of polling stations will be announced by the evening of May 20, following an on-site physical inspection. He further informed that there is a total of 834 voters, and the final voter count is currently being verified and confirmed through the Municipal Commissioner, as well as the Chief Officers of the various Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats. District Collector Kumar Ashirwad clarified that this final list would be published shortly.
Regarding the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct for this election, a committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Vinayak Mahamuni, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Zilla Parishad. Comprehensive and self-explanatory information regarding the Model Code of Conduct is also available on the official website of the Election Commission. He appealed to anyone having complaints regarding the Model Code of Conduct to contact this committee or the office of the District Election Officer. He stated that committees comprising heads of various departments—deemed essential from an electoral perspective—are currently being constituted. He further instructed that any complaints concerning the Model Code of Conduct should be lodged with the Zilla Parishad or the office of the District Election Officer.
