Nagpur: Somalwar School Inundated Due to Stalled Roadwork; Students Trapped in Knee-Deep Water and Mud
Nagpur: A critical situation has arisen at Somalwar School (Nikalas Branch) in the Khamla area (Rana Pratap Nagar Road) due to the rains. As the ongoing roadwork near the school was not completed on schedule, rainwater, mud, and soil from the road have flooded the school premises. Consequently, students, teachers, and parents are facing significant inconvenience.
According to local residents, the roadwork—which was expected to be completed during the summer vacation—stalled due to administrative delays. The work remained unfinished even after the school reopened. Meanwhile, heavy rains washed soil, debris, and mud from the road into the school grounds. With water accumulating to knee-deep levels in some areas, navigating the school premises has become hazardous for students.
Due to the heavy waterlogging on the school grounds, students had to be assisted out using ropes to return home. Concerns are being raised about the increased risk of infectious diseases caused by the accumulated mud and filth, and the situation is also disrupting academic and sports activities.
Parents and local residents have questioned the administration's planning. "Had the work been completed during the summer, the students would not have faced this ordeal," they remarked. They have demanded that the concerned department immediately arrange for water drainage, complete the roadwork on a war footing, and clear the mud and debris to ensure a safe environment for the students.
