Priyanka Gandhi Launches Scathing Attack in Lok Sabha; Questions Government on Use of Pellet Guns and AK-47s Against Student Protesters at Jantar Mantar
Delhi: During a heated debate in the Lok Sabha today regarding the bill introduced to curb paper leaks during the Parliament's Monsoon Session, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the central government.
Referring to the lathi-charge on a student march heading from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament on July 20, she asked, "What was the need to lathi-charge protesting students, fire tear gas shells, and use pellet guns and AK-47s?"
Priyanka Gandhi said, "At whose behest were the country's youth lathi-charged? What was the necessity to fire tear gas and lathi-charge these young people? They were students, not terrorists. It is not just the Congress but the entire nation asking who gave the order to use AK-47s and pellet guns against them. The whole country is demanding an answer."
She further stated that this government has consistently weakened all sectors that generate employment. The examination system has failed completely. In the last 10 years, 152 paper leaks have occurred, affecting crores of students. Yet, not a single guilty individual or member of the paper-leak mafia has been punished.
Priyanka Gandhi expressed strong disapproval in Parliament, cornering the government on both the paper leak issue and the crackdown on students.
