PM Internship Scheme: Rules Simplified, Stipend Increased; New Sectors Added—From Semiconductors to Renewable Energy—A Golden Era for Youth!

New Delhi: The Central Government has introduced major changes to the Prime Minister's Internship Scheme (PM Internship Scheme). These changes will provide youth with greater opportunities and have led to the inclusion of new sectors. In the third phase of the scheme, the objective is to provide internships to approximately 100,000 young individuals. To date, over 15,500 internship opportunities have been made available across 19 sectors and 32 states.
What are the Key Changes?
New Sectors Added: Sectors such as Semiconductors, Renewable Energy, and Global Capability Centers have now been incorporated into the scheme. This will enable young people to receive training in modern and emerging fields.
CSR Mandate Removed: Previously, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expenditure was a mandatory requirement for companies wishing to participate. With the removal of this rule, many companies that do not have a CSR mandate can now offer internships, thereby increasing the total number of available opportunities.
Increase in Stipend: The monthly stipend has been raised from ?5,000 to ?9,000. This will provide greater financial support to the youth.
Flexible Internship Duration: Previously, the duration was fixed at one year; now, options for 6 or 9 months are available.
Year-Round Advertisements: Companies can now post internship advertisements at any time throughout the year, ensuring that opportunities remain continuously available.
Simplified Eligibility Criteria:
The minimum age limit has been lowered from 21 to 18 years.
The maximum age limit has been raised from 24 to 25 years.
Post-graduate and MBA students are now also eligible to apply.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has simplified the rules for candidates and increased the stipend amount. The primary objective of the scheme is to enhance the employability of the country's youth by providing them with practical training at top-tier companies.
These changes are expected to prove highly beneficial for the youth. Thanks to more companies, new sectors, higher stipends, and flexible regulations, millions of young people will gain access to better opportunities. Interested youth should visit the official portal for further information.
