Tensions escalate in Bangladesh! Student leaders issue a 'final warning' to Prime Minister Tariq Rahman

"No one can match us when it comes to violence!"; Will Tariq Rahman meet the same fate as Sheikh Hasina? Student leaders issue a direct threat in Bangladesh
Tensions escalate in Bangladesh! Student leaders issue a 'final warning' to Prime Minister Tariq Rahman—reminiscent of the one given to Sheikh Hasina
Dhaka: The political climate in Bangladesh has heated up once again. Leaders of the 'National Citizen Party' (NCP)—which emerged from the student protests of 2024—have issued a direct threat to Prime Minister Tariq Rahman.
NCP leader Asif Muhammad Sojib Bhuiyan—who previously served as an advisor in the government led by Muhammad Yunus—stated unequivocally, "When it comes to violence, no one can match us." He warned Tariq Rahman that if violence is perpetrated against student leaders, this battle will not merely be against a single political party, but against an entire generation.
Bhuiyan remarked, "The Sheikh Hasina government made this very mistake and subsequently faced the consequences. We hope that Tariq Rahman will not repeat that error."
Background:
Sheikh Hasina was compelled to step down from power following the anti-quota protests of 2024. Subsequently, an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus took charge of the country's administration.
In the recently concluded elections, Tariq Rahman's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured a victory, leading to his assumption of the office of Prime Minister.
However, the student leaders affiliated with the NCP remain resentful over this electoral defeat. Following an incident in Jhenaidah where eggs were hurled at NCP leaders, violent clashes have erupted between activists of the BNP and the NCP.
The student leaders have issued a stark reminder of the protests that took place in 2024. They have warned that if the ruling party attempts to weaponize violence as a political tool, a protest movement akin to that of 2024 could rise up once again.
Currently, tensions between supporters of the BNP and the NCP are escalating across Bangladesh, raising concerns regarding the potential for political instability within the country.
