Approval for ?9 Crore Plan for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din Facilities at Deekshabhoomi
Nagpur, 24th:** Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved a proposal worth ?8.92 crore, submitted by District Collector Kumar Aashirwad under the Chief Minister's guidance, to provide necessary amenities at the Deekshabhoomi premises for the Dhammachakra Pravartan Din observance. The District Collector inspected the site today.
Lakhs of followers from across the country visit Deekshabhoomi. With Dussehra falling on October 20th this year, the highest footfall is expected at Deekshabhoomi between October 18th and 21st. In preparation for this, and to ensure comprehensive arrangements and facilities, the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department—at the initiative of District Collector Kumar Aashirwad—is making funds of approximately ?8.93 crore available for the first time. These funds will be used to erect temporary shelter centers for the followers. Additionally, facilities such as bedding, fans, air coolers, tables, LED lighting, clean drinking water arrangements, sanitation, and mobile toilets will be provided. Further measures include setting up a temporary health unit, ambulances, and a supply of medicines; ensuring night-time lighting and security; and arranging for generators, CCTV surveillance, a police assistance booth, and volunteers. Ground surfacing work (using *murum* gravel) will also be carried out within the Deekshabhoomi premises. The Social Welfare Department is acting as the implementing agency for these projects, and work on creating these facilities has already commenced.
District Collector Kumar Aashirwad conducted an on-site inspection today alongside officials from various departments to review the current situation. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar, Additional District Collector Pravin Mahire, and Assistant Commissioner of the Social Welfare Department Sukeshini Telgote were present during the visit. The District Collector inspected the arrangements at the Babasaheb Ambedkar Social Justice Bhavan complex and issued necessary instructions.
Every year, on the occasion of Dhammachakra Pravartan Din, lakhs of followers visit this sacred site where Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar embraced Buddhism. Temporary accommodation facilities are being arranged in the area for women, the elderly, children, and persons with disabilities. During the inspection, the District Collector directed that comprehensive arrangements be put in place this year, taking into account potential challenges caused by the rain. A detailed review of existing facilities, required works, and necessary measures was conducted.
The District Collector instructed the concerned government agencies to maintain coordination to ensure that visiting followers do not face any inconvenience.
