Industrialists Granted ?10 Lakh Crore Loan Waivers in 12 Years; Farmers Get Zero! Shocking Reality Revealed by Government Data

New Delhi – While the government announces numerous schemes for farmers' welfare and expresses sympathy for them, official statistics reveal a shocking reality.
Between 2014 and 2026, the Central Government wrote off loans worth a staggering ?10 lakh crore belonging to industrialists and the corporate sector. During this same period, however, not a single rupee of loan waiver was granted to farmers. These figures clearly indicate the step-motherly treatment meted out to the agricultural sector.
This information emerged from data presented in the Rajya Sabha by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and the Ministry of Finance.
**Major Disparity in Loan Disbursement**
In 2014-15, the agricultural sector received loans amounting to ?8.45 lakh crore, whereas companies in the corporate and service sectors were granted loans worth ?30.64 lakh crore. In the 2025-26 financial year, the agricultural sector received ?29.99 lakh crore in loans, while the corporate sector was disbursed ?69.21 lakh crore.
**Corporates Benefit Most from RBI Norms**
To provide relief to distressed borrowers, the Reserve Bank issued revised guidelines on the 'Restructuring of Stressed Assets' on November 28, 2025 (updated as of July 1, 2026). This empowered banks to financially restructure the loans of distressed borrowers in accordance with policies approved by their respective boards. The corporate sector has benefited the most from this measure.
These figures clearly demonstrate that while farmers face severe crises, industrialists are receiving massive loan waivers and concessions.
