Delhi Voter List Revision: Notices Issued to Over 33 Lakh Voters, Including Advani and Sisodia
New Delhi – Notices have been issued to a total of 33.13 lakh voters—including former Deputy Prime Minister and senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, as well as former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia—due to discrepancies found in their records during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Delhi's electoral rolls.
Election officials stated that these notices were issued because names could not be matched with the 2002 electoral roll or because discrepancies were found in the records. Along with Advani, his daughter Pratibha and daughter-in-law Geetika also received notices; however, his son Jayant’s registration was found valid during the verification process. Notices were also issued to Sisodia’s wife Seema and son Meer. Notices have also been served to Delhi BJP leader Rekha Gupta and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.
Out of the total 97 lakh voters in Delhi's draft electoral roll, 33.13 lakh entries were scrutinized, resulting in the issuance of over 31.63 lakh notices. The concerned voters have been given until October 29 to respond with the necessary documents. The process for filing claims and objections concludes on September 30.
Independent Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal strongly criticized this process. He alleged that there is an ongoing attempt to remove the names of valid voters while adding those of invalid ones. Sibal and his wife also received notices under the category of entries "not matching the previous special intensive revision." He expressed shock at receiving a notice despite his name appearing in the draft electoral roll.
The Congress party also criticized the process, alleging that a mass voter-deletion drive is underway at the behest of the Home Minister and that this constitutes an attack on the Constitution.
