Biometric Aadhaar verification mandatory for LPG subsidy from October 1; failure to do so means getting the cylinder without the subsidy
Delhi: A significant rule for domestic LPG consumers across the country will come into effect on October 1, 2026. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has made Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) mandatory for booking domestic LPG cylinders. This will directly impact consumers who have not yet completed their biometric Aadhaar verification.
Under the new rule, completing this process is essential to book an LPG refill at the subsidized rate. However, failure to complete biometric verification will not result in a complete stoppage of LPG cylinder supplies. Such consumers will still be able to purchase cylinders but will not receive the government subsidy benefit and will have to buy the cylinder at the market price.
How many consumers have completed the process?
As of September 19, 2026, biometric Aadhaar verification has been completed for 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers nationwide. This represents approximately 89.9 percent of the total active domestic LPG consumer base. Those who have already completed this verification do not need to repeat the process.
What is the subsidy amount?
In September 2026, the indirect subsidy on a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder was approximately ?210. This amount is subject to change based on timing and government decisions. Therefore, consumers eligible for the subsidy need to complete the process before October 1.
The process can be completed from home
There is no need to visit the gas agency for biometric Aadhaar authentication; it can be done at the time of LPG cylinder delivery. Alternatively, the process can be completed by visiting the gas distributor's showroom. For home-based completion, mobile apps from government oil companies—IndianOil ONE, HelloBPCL, and HP PAY—can be used.
