Mumbai, January 5, 2026: As the candidates are ready for the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, a big recipe has started to win in Marathi Mumbai Karachi. The alliance of Thackeray brothers (Uddhav Sena and MNS) has taken up the issue of Marathi identity by putting together an Aghadi, while the grand alliance of BJP-Shinde Sena has started trying to attract voters by making false promises of strong development of Satchaya. In the last three decades, Marathi voters have always been decisive in municipal elections, but in this case, emotional voting will be more important than experience and direct performance, this is the opinion of political analysts.
In 2022, the political equation has completely changed due to elections in Lambanila. Shiv Sena, which was once a friend, has now become an enemy. Uddhav Sen has joined hands with MNS. Congress has tied up with Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi. Marathi voters are dominant in 138 out of 227 divisions, in which Uddhav Sena has fielded 146, BJP has fielded 92, Shinde Sena has fielded 73 and MNS has fielded 49 Marathi candidates. 137 Marathi dominated division is fighting like this against Shinde-BJP, Uddhav-MNS-Nationalist (Sharad Pawar group). There is a clash between Uddhav Sena and BJP in 57 divisions and Shinde Sena in 46 divisions. Mansela Shinde has 10 divisional calls with Sene and 20 division calls with BJP.
Competition is intense in 47 divisions having Muslim voters. In the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Uddhav has bowed down and the Muslim vote is coming to the Congress. Uddhav Sen has given 11 Muslim candidates and Shinde Sen has given 10 Muslim candidates. The main issues are encroachments on footpaths, roads, water, garbage, transport and reconstruction. Despite being the ruling party, division is not a source of change, this is the question voters are thinking. There are emotional issues like Marathi pride, plunder by builder-politicians and neglect of local people, but food, good roads and a secure future are the main ones.
