Pune, January 5, 2026: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has set a firm goal of making Maharashtra the country's first 'trillion-dollar economy' by 2030. In this ambitious plan, the Pune Metropolitan Region has been given priority after Mumbai. The Chief Minister said that more than 50,000 crore rupees have been allocated for infrastructure development in Pune through the central and state governments, which will boost the city's overall development.
The Mumbai and Pune Metropolitan Regions have been included in the 14 urban development centers announced in the 2024 Union Budget. With the cooperation of the state government, NITI Aayog, and the Pune International Centre, emphasis is being placed on foreign investment, job creation, and environmentally friendly development. A detailed action plan will soon be submitted through PMRDA, in which Pune will play a major role in taking Maharashtra's economy to 500 billion dollars by 2027.
Chief Minister Fadnavis has emphasized removing obstacles to Pune's development. Projects such as increasing international flights at Lohgaon Airport, runway expansion, construction of Purandar Airport, strengthening facilities in Hinjewadi, and developing a GCC hub have gained momentum. To address traffic congestion, central government assistance is being sought to strengthen public transport. An economic plan is being prepared with the participation of local entrepreneurs, traders, and urban authorities.
Employment opportunities for youth: To prioritize skilled youth in Pune, a center of education, the start-up ecosystem is being strengthened. The Chief Minister himself is focusing on job creation and boosting the economy through foreign investment. It is believed that these efforts will soon make Pune a global hub for industry and business.
This development plan will improve the quality of life for the citizens of Pune and increase the city's economic potential.
