Congress has a chance to increase its strength in Rajya Sabha: Even though 4 MPs are retiring, it can get 6 seats
February 24, :-The Congress party is likely to benefit in the elections for 37 Rajya Sabha seats. This election is being held as the term of many members is ending on April 2.
Like the BJP, the Congress' strength may also increase to some extent in the biennial Rajya Sabha elections to be held on March 16. Currently, the Congress has 25 MPs in the Rajya Sabha and four members of the party are retiring. However, if the right strategy is adopted, the Congress is likely to get two additional seats. The BJP can reach 108-109 seats in the Rajya Sabha from the current 103.
According to the All India Congress Committee, Abhishek Manu Singhvi is likely to get a nomination from Telangana again.
The Congress may get one seat in Chhattisgarh and the name of former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is in the news.
The Congress is also likely to get one seat each in Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. The Congress has a government in Himachal, while the party has 37 MLAs in Haryana.
Congress' chance in Assam?
In Assam, the Congress has 29 votes and needs the support of 32 MLAs for one seat. If it gets the support of CPM (1), AIUDF (16) and BPF (1), the Congress can succeed here too. However, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed that the BJP will win three seats.
In Odisha, the Congress can get one seat if it aligns with Naveen Patnaik's BJD. The BJD has 51 votes and a candidate needs 30 votes to win. The Congress has 14 MLAs here.
Congress leaders who are interested
Union Minister Anand Sharma, Bhanwar Jitendra Singh, film actor Raj Babbar, Pawan Khera, Sachin Rao, Krishna Allavaru, Meenakshi Natarajan, Supriya Srinath and other leaders are interested for the Rajya Sabha seats.
Rebel support and other states
In Telangana, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has assured the Congress leadership of getting additional seats. The UPA has 65 MLAs and may get support from the AIMIM (7) as well as the rebel BRS MLAs.
In Tamil Nadu, the Congress has requested the DMK to give it one Rajya Sabha seat. However, this is unlikely as Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is not ready to share power.
