Police halt Kejriwal's march against E-20 petrol; sit-in protest begins on Ferozeshah Road
Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) took to the streets today to protest against the mandatory use of E-20 petrol. AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, accompanied by around 100 vehicle owners whose vehicles were damaged due to E-20 fuel, attempted to march to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence. However, the Delhi Police stopped the march on Ferozeshah Road itself.
Kejriwal, party leaders, and affected citizens gathered near the AAP headquarters at 12 PM and set out towards the Prime Minister's residence with a memorandum bearing the signatures of 2.33 lakh citizens. After the police blocked the march with barricades, citing security reasons, Kejriwal and the accompanying leaders and activists sat on the road and began a sit-in protest.
Speaking to journalists during the protest, Kejriwal sharply criticized the central government. He stated, "The Prime Minister should not succumb to pressure from US President Donald Trump. Ethanol imports from the US should be stopped, and E-20 fuel should not be forcibly imposed on the people of the country."
He added, "We are accompanied by 100 citizens whose vehicles have been damaged by E-20 fuel. We have brought a memorandum with over 2.33 lakh signatures. The Prime Minister should listen to the voice of the people and invite us inside for a discussion. A message has been sent to the Prime Minister's Office. Our struggle will continue until we get a meeting and the mandate for E-20 is withdrawn."
Affected citizens are complaining that E-20 fuel has caused a drastic drop in vehicle mileage and is leading to engine failures. An online campaign launched against this move has garnered support from 2,33,238 people who have signed digitally within just a few days. Kejriwal also alleged that social media influencers and content creators raising their voices against E-20 are being intimidated through the filing of FIRs.
