Big twist in Maharashtra's municipal council elections! All results to be declared together on December 21
Mumbai, December 2, 2025: There has been a big change in the municipal council and nagar panchayat elections in the state. After today's voting, the results to be held tomorrow (December 3) have now been postponed to December 21. The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court has given this decision, and all the counting of votes across the state will be held together on a single day. The court has stated that this will make the election process more transparent and fair.
The Election Commission had recently postponed the elections of many municipal wards in 20 districts of the state. These include districts like Pune, Solapur, Chandrapur, Yavatmal, Ahilyanagar, Dharashiv, Nanded and Thane. Although this decision has left activists disappointed, this order of the court is being considered important to avoid the risk of irregularities in the election.
New schedule and rules for counting
Total counting: The counting of votes for all municipal councils and panchayats in the state will be held simultaneously on December 21. This will eliminate the possibility of the results of one area affecting other areas.
Model Code of Conduct Remains: The model code of conduct will remain in force till December 20. No exit polls or results-related information will be published during this period.
EVM Arrangements: All EVMs from today's voting will have to be kept safe till the 21st. This will put additional pressure on the administration, but the Election Commission has said that it is fully prepared for this.
The verdict on the petition filed in the court was given today itself. The petitioners had argued that the results tomorrow may put pressure on the next phase of voting. The court accepted this point and issued the following order. "Our primary objective is to maintain the sanctity of the election process," the judge said.
Polling developments
In today's voting across the state, complaints of EVM machines being shut down at some places, bogus voters and long queues were seen. However, the overall voting percentage remained satisfactory. The Election Commission has taken immediate cognizance of these complaints and has started an inquiry.
The decision has sparked discussions among political parties. Both the Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi are eager to know the outcome. "This decision is good for transparency, but the administration's preparations need to be explained," said a senior official.
This news is a relief for citizens, as it will take more time to wait for the outcome, but the process will be more reliable. Contact us for more updates.
