EVM performed aarti with turmeric and saffron in Bhor; violation of Election Commission rules

Shocking incident of EVM being ‘devhara’ during Bhor Municipal Council elections
EVM worshipped at polling station; complaint likely to be filed for violation of model code of conduct

Bhor (Pune District) – The voting process has been shaken during the Bhor Municipal Council elections. A video has surfaced showing EVM machines being worshipped at a polling station in Bhor while performing aarti. Experts have expressed their opinion that this is a clear violation of the Election Commission’s model code of conduct.
In the video that went viral on social media, turmeric and saffron, flower garlands and incense sticks are seen placed in front of the EVM machine inside the polling station. Some people are also seen performing aarti and bowing to the machine. It is said that this incident took place at a polling station in a government school within the limits of Bhor Municipal Council.
According to the Election Commission rules, no religious activity, prayer or worship can be performed within 100 meters of a polling station. Also, since the EVM machine is government property, it is a crime to put any religious symbols or worship on it.
Opposition candidates' activists have informed that a complaint is being filed with the election inspector and the Bhor tehsildar in this matter. An investigation into the incident is underway and action is likely to be taken against the culprits.
After this incident came to light, angry reactions are being seen on social media. "Making EVM a god is a mockery of democracy," some have criticized.
