Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Harshvardhan Sapkal has made a serious allegation that the Election Commission completely mishandled the elections in many municipalities and municipal councils of Maharashtra.
“The Election Commission created chaos at every level, from preparing the voter list to implementing the voting process. The election process was prolonged by repeatedly postponing dates. This election was not ‘free and fair’ in any sense,” said Sapkal.
He further added, “The ruling party freely used the four-pronged strategy of persuasion, bribery, punishment, and division. The registration of bogus voters, intimidation of voters, misuse of power, and the extensive use of money completely destroyed the sanctity of the election. The Election Commission's role proved to be the most crucial in the ruling party's victory.”
