Since the tournament is being held on home ground, there is no need for reserve players - BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. India and Sri Lanka are the joint hosts of this tournament. The announcement was made in the presence of Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, captain Suryakumar Yadav, and BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia.
Significantly, no standby (reserve) players have been announced for the 2026 T20 World Cup and the T20 series against New Zealand. Speaking about this at a press conference, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said,
"Since the entire tournament is being held in our country, we can replace any player at any time. Therefore, there is no need for standby players."
In the last T20 World Cup, a list of standby players was announced, but this time, since the tournament is being held on home ground, it has become logistically easier. India's first match will be against the USA on February 7 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
